Objective:To detect the expression of bFGF and COX-2 in cervical squamous carcinoma and discuss their relationship with clinical-pathological factors of cervical carcinoma. To investigate the effect of arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy on the expression of bFGF and COX-2(avoid repeated) in advanced cervical squamous carcinoma. To determine whether there is a relationship between the two factors and the effect of arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy and to discuss the feasibility of taking them as new predictive indexes for the effect of arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy. Methods: The expression of bFGF and COX-2 were determined by means of immunohistochemistry in 148 cases(58 cases of cervical squamous carcinoma,50 cases of CIN,10 cases of normal controls and 30 cases of cervical squamous carcinoma taking arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy). For patients taking arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy, the expression of bFGF and COX-2 were checked before and after the treatment respectively. The ratetionship between the change of the two factor and the therapeutic effect of arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy,as well as the correlation of the expression of bFGF and COX-2 in cervical carcinoma tissues were analyzed.Results:1 .The expression of bFGF was0,10%,46.7%,53.4% in healthy controls, patients with CINII,patients with CINIII and patients with cervical carcinoma respectively;while COX-2 was0,20%,40%,58.6% respectively. The expression of bFGF and COX-2 in patients with cervical carcinoma and CINIII were significantly higher than that in the healthy controls(r=0.409,P<0.05).2 .The expression of bFGF in cervical carcinoma tissues has connection with deep myometrium invasion and region of local focus. There is also a relationship between COX-2 and the stage, pathologic grade of cervical carcinoma and lymphomatic metastasis.3. After arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy,3 patients (10.00%) were completely relieved(CR)and 21 patients(70.00%)were partially relieved(PR),the totoal efficient rate of arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy is 80.00%,while in IIb-IIIb cases the efficient rate is 75.00%.4. The expression of bFGF and COX-2 decreased significantly after arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy compared with before.5 .In patients who react to arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy, the expression of bFGF and COX-2 decreased significantly after the treatment. But there is no such obvious change in other patients who react poorly to arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapyConclusion:Over the expression of bFGF and COX-2 was found in cervical squamous carcinoma. Arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy is an effective treatment for advanced cervical squamous carcinoma. .The expression of bFGF and COX-2 decreased significantly in patients who react to arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy. bFGF and COX-2 could be considered as new predictive indicators for therapeutic effect of arterial perfusion embolization chemotherapy.
