Objective The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship of CRP gene+1846C>T SNP in the 3'-untraslated region with CRP level and ischemic stroke with Chinese Hart in Hunan province. Methods A case-control study on 105 patients with cerebral infarction and 121 healthy controls was carried out.All the patients were measured with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS).Serum CRP levels were determined by a high-sensitivity immunometric assay. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique was used to detect CRP gene+1846C>T single-nucleotide polymorphism. Results In our study population,CRP level were significantly higher for ischemic stroke patients compared with controls in the acute phase. The frequency of CRP+1846 C>T genotypic frequency are 17.7%(CC), 48.2%(CT) and 34.1%(TT),the frequency of C/T allele is 0.418/0.582.+1846C>T single-nucleotide polymorphisms did not show a significant association to ischemic stroke. No association was found between+1846C>T SNP and serum CRP concentrations. We found a significant association between+1846C>T SNP and the NIHSS score. Conclusions Serum CRP concentrations with ischemic stroke was higher than controls'.+1846C>T single-nucleotide polymorphism did not influence serum CRP concentrations.+1846C>T gene polymorphism may not be genetic predisposing factor for ischemic stroke. But CRP +1846C>T was associated with neurological impairment with ischemic stroke.
