ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2,matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-3 in the women with endometriosis and in the normal endometrium for exploring their role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.MethodsImmunohistochemical streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase protein staining was used to detect the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2,matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-3 in the eutopic( 28cases) and ectopis (20 cases)endometrium from patients with endometriosis's .22 cases normal endometrium are control group. Beside, silver staining was also used to observe the integrity of epithelial basement membrane.ResultsThe expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2),matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) in the patients with endometriosis 's ectopic endometrium were higher than that in eutopic endometrium group and in control group,;two of them in eutopic endometrium group was significantly higher than that in control group,the difference has statistically significant (P <0.05).But the expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-3(TIMP-3), the ectopic endometrium was lower than the eutopic endometrium group and the control group,meantimes the eutopic endometrium group was lower the control group,the difference also has statistically significant (P<0.05). The results about silver-staining of epithelial basement membrane showed that the staining intensity ratio of MMP-9 and the integrity of the basement membrane was a negative correlation (P <0.01), with regard to TIMP-3 in contrast.Conclusions1,The abnormal expression of MMP-9,MMP-2,TIMP-3 in the eutopic endometrial of women with endometriosis suggestes that those may play a important role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. 2. The balance of MMP-2/MMP-3 and MMP-9/TIMP-3 disorders may be one of the reasons why the incidence of endometriosis.
