Study Of The Related Factors Of Endodontic Interappointment Pain

Objective To estimate the related factors and prophylactic measures of endodontic interappointment pain(EIAP).Methods 451 teeth were divided into two groups(ProTaper group and handheld reamer group).The related factors consisted of age,gender,position of the teeth, presenting symptoms,periradicular status and treatment procedures.The data of incidences and flare-up index(FUI) value of EIAP were statistically analyzed using the chi-square test and one-factor analysis of variance.Results The EIAP incidence of the ProTaper group was 13.6%,FUI value was 2.51. The EIAP incidence of the handheld reamer group was 22.3%,FUI value was 4.38, the EIAP incidence and FUI value of the ProTaper group were significantly lower than handheld reamer group(p＜0.05).The EIAP incidence was significantly associated with the pretreatment percussion pain,pretreatment(spontaneous) pain(p＜0.01).The FUI value of the severe spontaneous pain teeth was significantly higher than those of other teeth in the ProTaper group(p＜0.05).The EIAP incidence of absence periapical radiolucency was significantly higher than presence periapical raidolucency(p＜0.05).The EIAP incidence of molars was significantly higher than labial teeth,premolars in the handheld reamer group(p＜0.01).The EIAP incidence and FUI value were not significantly associated with the age,gender,sinus tract, history of swelling. Conclusion The EIAP incidence was significantly associated with the clinical technique,periapical radiolucency,the pretreatment percussion pain,pretreatment (spontaneous) pain.The FUI value was associated with the pretreatment(spontaneous) pain in the ProTaper group.The EIAP incidence was significantly associated with the position of the teeth in the handheld reamer group.
