Abnormal fetal birth weight(≥4000g or≤2500g) is badly threatening people's healthy.Researches find fetal birth weight is related to resistin, which is one of the important adipocytokine.Resistin play an important role in controlling fetal growth. Objective:To investigate the relationship of maternal serum, umbilical cord serum and placental resistin levels;maternal serum insulin levels; insulin resistance with fetal birth weight. Methods:ELISA was used to measure the resistin levels in maternal serum and umbilical cord serum from 40 normal pregnant women(groop AGA),30 women with macrosomia(groop LGA)and 30 women with fetal growth restriction(groop SGA).Immunohistochemistry was used to measure resistin levels in placental.Radiate immunoassay was used to measure the maternal serum insulin levels. The data was analyed by SPSS15.0.Sample were compared with Student T test or wilcoxon rank test.Correlation was calculated by the Pearson correlation or Spearman rank correlation.Results:1.Mean maternal serum resistin levels from group AGA,LGA,SGA were 10.43±1.14,8.17±1.38,13.10±2.58μg/L,mean umbilical cord serum resistin levels were 19.79±1.84,17.32±1.41,25.51±4.23μg/L.Maternal serum resistin levels and umbilical cord serum resistin levels from LGA and SGA were significantly different to AGA(P<0.05).Umbilical cord serum resistin levels were higher than serum resistin levels(P<0.01).2.Mean maternal serum insulin levels from group AGA,LGA,SGA were 15.54±2.03,14.13±3.14,17.09±3.86μIU/ml;Maternal serum insulin levels from SGA was significantly different to AGA(P<0.05).3.Immunolocalization of resistin in all cases were observed mainly in syncytiotrophoblast. The located in cytoplasm.Resistin levels in placental from LGA and SGA were significantly different to AGA(P<0.05).4.Umbilical cord serum resistin levels were positively correlated with maternal serum resistin levels(r=0.861,p<0.01);Maternal serum resistin levels were positively correlated with placental resistin levels(r=0.613, p<0.01);Umbilical cord serum resistin levels were positively correlated with placental resistin levels(r=0.608,p<0.01).Resistin levels in maternal serum, umbilical cord serum and placental were all negatively correlated with fetal birth weight(r=-0.792,P<0.01;r=-0.798,P<0.01;r=-0.656, P<0.01).Maternal serum resistin levels were positively correlated with maternal serum insulin levels(r=0.393,P<0.05).Conclusion:1.Maternal serum, umbilical cord serum and placental resistin levels from SGA and LGA were significantly different to AGA.Resistin levels in maternal serum, umbilical cord serum and placental were all negatively correlated with fetal birth weight.Resistin levels may be play an important role in controlling fetal birth weight.2.Maternal serum resistin levels were positively correlated with maternal serum insulin levels.Resistin levels were correlated with insulin resistance, which relate to fetal growth.
