Objective: To explore the inner diameter, flow rate, blood flow of MCA during cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in rabbits using ultrasound angiography (USA) and provide an accurate and noninvasive method of measuring cerebral blood flow for the clinical application. Methods: The SAH model was induced by the injection of autologous arterial blood in pre chiasma cistern. Ultrasound angiography (USA) was performed on 18 adult rabbits with SAH. The inner diameter and flow rate before and after SAH were measured by the USA, respectively. The USA images of MCA inter diameter were measured by Getcolorpixels software. The blood flow was calculated using the formula FS =π×(R/2)2×V. The MCA parameters were analyzed. Results: There were statistically significant difference in inner diameter and flow rate between before and after SAH using USA (P<0.05), inner diameter 713±15μm and 475±6.4μm, flow rate 34.67±3.11cm/s and 55.4±3.81cm/s, respectively. The cerebral blood flow was calculated as (13.86±1.11)×10-2ml/s and(9.19±0.71)×10-2ml/s, respectively. There was statistically significant difference, too. (P<0.01).Conclusions: USA associated with Doppler Ultrasound may measure cerebral blood flow in MCA accurately. The method, which is simple and reliable, has certain value to analyze CBF during CVS after SAH.
