Objective: To evaluate the benefits of using new bone metabolic markers such as serum pyridinoline crosslinked C-telopeptides of type I collagen (ICTP) and serum tartrate-resistand acid phosphatase(TRACP) 5b in the detection of bone metastasis in patients with breast cancer and 40 patients with fibroadenoma. Methods: The levels of serum ICTP and serum Tracp 5b in 78 patients with breast cancer were measured using ELISA.Results: The level of all bone markers in patients with bone metastasis was significantly higher than in the patients without bone metastasis (p<0.001). Higher serum ICTP and serum Tracp 5b were detected and a significant correlation was seen between the two markers (r=0.63,p<0. 01). The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of serum ICTP was 55.3%,92.5%,81.4%, and the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of serum Tracp 5b was 84.2%,83.8%,83.9%, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the combined application of serum ICTP and Tracp 5b was 94.7%,81.3%,85.6%.Conclusion: Serum ICTP and blood Tracp 5b have important value to the diagnosis of bone metastasis wih breast cancer . The combined application of serum ICTP and Tracp 5b is contributed to improve the diagnostic sensitivity and accuracy of bone metastasis with breast cancer.
