Object and Method: By using the methods of clinical literature and medical history,this thesis collects and summarizes ancient research files from Ming and Qing dynasty to Republic,including the history of the name,etiology and pathogenesis,signs and methods of treatment, prognosis etc. Theresearcher tries to find out the developing rule of carcinoma of the colon and rectum from the viewpoint of history, and provides basic and systematic literature for the farther researches.Conclusions: About the name, the carcinoma of the colon and rectum is related to abdominal mass,mass in the abdomen,anoectal carcinoma, cardiac fullness etc.It had been thinked that the etiology of the carcinoma of the colon and rectum mainly relates to the factors of six external evils,diet,stagnant blood,internal poison,and the lack of healthy energy etc.Its management principle is simultaneous application of purging-tonifying therapy , the different curative methods are adopted in the different stage of the disease .
