Objective By investigating the serum arachidonic acid, leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2 levels in patients with acne to explore arachidonic acid and its derivatives in the role of inflammation development in acne, and its relevance with the extent of inflammation in acne. In order to provide a new target for the treatmentMethods Selected 40 cases of patients with acne vulgaris as experimental group and 32 cases of healthy as controls control groups. Test group will be classified into three groups with the accordance of Pillsbury. A sandwich ELASA technique was applied to detect serum levels of arachidonic acid, leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2. The compare of serum levels of arachidonic acid, leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2 between experimental group and control group are using T tests; the correlation between the extent of inflammatory acne and concentration of arachidonic acid, leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2 are using one-way ANOVA method. Results The levels of serum arachidonic acid, leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2 levels in test group are higher than that of control group, but only arachidonic acid is statistically significant. In the experimental group the inter-group differences of arachidonic acid, leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2 has no statistically significant ,and the levels have no relevance with the extend of inflammation. Conclusions Arachidonic acid and its derivatives-leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2 may be involved in the occurrence of acne. According to its mechanism, it suggest that they are more likely to involve in the aspects of inflammatory response of acne .
