BackgroundInjury has been one of the most important public health problems, and has aroused great attention all over the world. In China, injuries occur about 200 million every year, in which the number of injury deaths is about 7-7.5 million people, about 9% of the total number of death. Injuries are the fifth cause of death, following the cancer disease, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease and heart disease. In terms of patients, injuries can not only cause physical disability barriers and mental disease, but also cause great economic losses. Especially to those low-income families, injury causes a very heavy economic burden. China is a large agricultural country, in which the rural population accounts for nearly 70%. With sustained and rapid development of rural economy and an increasingly accelerated pace of rural life, harm caused bu injury to the health and lives of rural residents is becoming more and more serious. For this reason, through extensive, systematic, scientific research, we can understand better and find out the cause and the rule of the injury, and then provide scientific basis for the prevention and control of unintentional injury of rural residents.ObjectivesThrough using the Fourth National Health Service survey data, we can analysis the prevalence status, influencing factors and trends of the unintentional injuries of China's rural residents, and then provide an empirical basis in order to develop a viable injury prevention and control measures and related health policy. Specific objectives include as follows: 1. To learn about the prevalence status of unintentional injuries in rural residents.2. To understand the main types of unintentional injuries of the surveyed population in rural areas.3. To explore theinfluencing factors of unintentional injuries among rural residents.4. To put forward related recommendations on health policy and measures for the recommendations prevention and control of unintentional injuries in rural residents and based on the above analysis. Methods:The data used in this study came from the Fourth National Health Services survey in the part of the Family Health Interview Survey (excluding Beijing area). The sample used multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method. The first stage stratified based on county (city or urban areas) for a sample area, the second-stage stratified based on township (neighborhood) as a sample area, the third-stage stratified sample of the village area and finally a sample of individual households. The original data was then encoded, and put into computer with a FoxPro establishment of a database, and then to do a simple statistical analysis. The analysisi was according to a variable assignment, as well as the original logical relationship between variables to inspect, check and preliminary analysis the data, and do some statistical treatment of the abnormal values. Finally, we used SPSS16.0 package for statistical analysis and the data was analyzed with a general description of analysis and multi-factor analysis.Results:1.The overall incidence of unintentional injuries among rural residents:The survey data of this study involving a total of 129301 people of rural residents (excluding Beijing area), the incidence of unintentional injuries among rural residents is 2.47%.2.The main types of unintentional injuries among rural residents include fall, trafficaccidents and animal bites. The population incidence rate was 1.05%,0.39% and 0.36% respectively; From the injury constitutes, fall injuries, traffic accidents and animal bites hurt the population accounted for 43.12%,16.05% and 14.43% respectively, and total number of three types of injury accounted for the total number of injury 73%.3. Place of injury occurred:mainly in roads, houses and public places. The proportions of injury venue were 33.9%,32.8% and 24.2% respectively. 4.Severity of injury:The prevalence rate was 71.6%,11.8%,12.8% and 3.8% for patients with treatment of injury or rest more than one day, patients following 10 days of hospitalization, patients hospitalized for 10 days and above, but did not lead to disability, and patients leads to disability.5. According to the regression coefficients of the Logisitic model and the odds ratio(OR), we can find that the male residents of the probability of unintentional injury was significantly higher than females (OR=1.415). The probability of accidents in rural areas with higher level of economic development was higher than in the fourth type rural areas. The prevalence rate of unintentional injury increased with the increasing of age. Secondly, the probability of injury accidents of the rural residents with work, limitation of daily activity, anxiety or depression, lower self-assessed health status, chronic diseases, smoking, drinking, living in buildings, were significantly higher than those without such situations.Suggestions:1.Enhancing health education and occupational safety education of rural residents to fully understand the dangers of unintentional injuries and raise awareness of injury prevention.2.Establishing and improving accident research and injury surveillance network to timely provide information on injury.3.Clearing the responsibility of governments, multi-departments participation and starting the injury prevention of social engineering.4. Strengthening rural community health service network and treatment system.
