Objective: To observe the protective effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on myocardium injury and bone marrow suppression induced by adriamycin (ADM) in rats.Methods: 45 SD rats were equally divided into 4 groups:normal control group (NC) with 10 rats, ADM model group (ADM) with 15 rats, electroacupuncture prevention group (EAP) with 10 rats, electroacupuncture treatment group (EAT) with 10 rats. The normal control group was given normal saline by intraperitoneal injection, while other three groups were given ADM at a single dose of 1.5mg·kg-1 by intraperitoneal injection every other day, six times for eleven days.On the nineteenth day, the indexes, such as electrocardiogram (ECG), death rate, heart coefficient and the myocardial enzyme :lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatine kinase (CK) and creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB) were detected. The pathological lesion of myocardium was observed. White blood cell count (WBC), red blood cell count (RBC), hemoglobin measurement (Hb), platelet count (PLT), bone marrow nuclear cell count (BMNC) were detected in rats. Results:1 The effects on the myocardium injury:1.1 Electroacupuncture prevention group and electroacupuncture treatment group could recover cardiac function, reduced the death rate and reduced the release of CK, CK-MB, LDH, AST (P<0.01 or P<0.05) when compared with the ADM model group.1.2 Myocardial fibers were in disorder condition under optical microscope in ADM model group, in which cellular edema, break or necrosis, infiltration of inflammatory cells, or obvious leakage of red blood cells could be observed. The above injuries could be significantly alleviated in electroacupuncture prevention group and electroacupuncture treatment group.2 The effects on bone marrow suppression:The electroacupuncture prevention group could increased significantly the contents of WBC, PLT and BMNC (P<0.01 or P<0.05); electroacupuncture treatment group could increased significantly the contents of PLT, BMNC (P<0.05) when compared with the ADM model group.Conclusion:1 EA can protect the heart function and myocardial cellular structure against ADM. EA can reduce the death rate, reduce the release of myocardial enzyme and relieve the pathological lesion of myocardium.2 EA has a better protective effect on bone marrow suppression induced by ADM in rats, which can improve the peripheral blood, and promote the proliferation of bone marrow cells.
