Purpose:This is a systematic review to evaluate the curative effect of laparoscopic resection for gastrointestinal stromal tumors of the stomach. Methods:All literatures up to March 2010, comparing laparoscopic with open resection, were retrieved. The clinical and pathological data, operation security, postoperative recovery and follow-up results were analyzed by using meta-analysis method. Results:Six literatures with 134 patients undergoing laparoscopic resection and 151 patients undergoing open resection were reviewed. There was no significant difference in age, sex, tumor characteristics. In operation security aspect, mean operation time (P=0.36), mean estimated blood loss and perioperative complications (P=0.24) did not show significant difference. Mean length of hospital stay after operation of laparoscopic group was markedly less than open resection group (P<0.00001), In laparoscopic group, recurrence and metastasis risk was lower than in open resection group (P=0.04).Conclusion:Laparoscopic resection of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors could be safe and effective with the advantage of minimal invasiveness, faster recovery, and tended to improve the prognosis.
