Objectives:The aim of this report is to evaluate the value of positron emission tomography (PET) and computer tomography (CT) fusion in the detection of suspicious recurrence and metastasis in the patients after gastrointestinal tumor radical correction. Methods:Retrospectively analyze 66 patients after gastrointestinal tumor radical correction which underwent PET and CT scanning at the same time. The final diagnosis of local recurrence and distant metastasis were proved by pathology. Analyze the results of PET and CT according to the final diagnosis. Results:59 out of 66 patients after gastrointestinal radical correction were proved local recurrence by pathology, while the rest 7 cases presented no abnormality in the same way. PET detected 56 positive cases and 10 negative cases, while for CT were 31 positive cases and 35 negative cases. There were 5 false-positive cases,4 false-negative cases in the PET,and 5 false-positive cases,33 false-negative cases in the CT. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predict, negative predict and positive detection rate were84.6%,85.7%,91.1%,60.0%,84.8%for PET, respectively, as compared with the values of above for CT were 44.1%,28.6%, 83.9%,5.7%,47.0%. PET has higher sensitivity, higher negative predict and higher positive detection rate than CT (P<0.05).PET has higher positive detection rate than CT for local lymph node recurrence lesions (78.4%VS62.2%) (P<0.05).49 out of 66 patients after gastrointestinal radical correction were proved distant metastasis by pathology, while the rest 17 cases presented no abnormality in the same way. PET detected 50 positive cases and 16 negative cases, while for CT were 22 positive cases and 44 negative cases. There were 8 false-positive cases,7 false-negative cases in the PET,and 4 false-positive cases,21 false-negative cases in the CT. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predict, negative predict and positive detection rate were85.7%, 52.9%,84.0%,50.3%,75.8%for PET, respectively, as compared with the values of above for CT were 36.7%,76.4%,81.8%,29.5%,33.3%. PET has higher sensitivity, higher negative predict and higher positive detection rate than CT (P< 0.05). PET has higher positive detection rate for liver metastasis lesions than CT (74.1% VS55.5%) (P<0.05).PET has higher positive detection rate than CT in the patients who both had local recurrence and distant metastasis (51.5%VS16.7%) (P<0.05). PET has higher diagnose accordance rate than CT in the stageâ…¢(81.8%VS18.2%)(P<0.05) and stage IV(85.7%VS 36.7%) (P<0.05) patients. Conclusion:PET is more valuable than CT for the diagnosis of local recurrence and distant metastasis in the patients after gastrointestinal tumor radical correction. PET can provide more effective methods for the tumor patients'clinical therapy choice.
