ObjectiveTo compare the efficiency of transrectal ultrasonography(TRUS) and computed tomography (CT) in preoperative staging of rectal carcinoma and to investigate the diagnostic value of the combination of TRUS,CEA and CT.Materials and Methods85 subjects who are hospitalized in the first affiliated hospital of China Medical University were selected. All these patients were done with digital examination of rectum before TRUS and CT examination. If the lesion of rectum is quite large, nearly taking up the entire intestine, please give it up. Then the patients with pathologically confirmed rectal carcinoma had TRUS and CT examination before surgery, and the tumors were classified according to TNM system and compared with pathological staging. Serum CEA level was measured before operation, and the positive standard of CEA is more than 5μg/L。ResultsWith pathology as the standard, there was no significant difference between TRUS and CT in accuracy of each staging of rectal carcinoma (x2=0.00, P>0.05). The diagnostic accuracy in staging by TRUS alone was 80.00%. There were significant difference in serum CEA level from T1 to T4 (F=16.49, P<0.05), that is, serum CEA level increased gradually with the pathological stage. The accuracy rate in preoperative staging of rectal carcinoma was 88.24% by TRUS combined with serum CEA level and 96.47% when using the above three methods.Conclusion1.There was no significant difference in accuracy of preoperative staging of rectal carcinoma between TRUS and CT.2. Serum CEA level increased gradually with the pathological stage.3.The combination of TRUS,CEA and CT can improve diagnostic accuracy in preoperative staging of rectal cancer.
