BackgroundEczema is caused by a variety of internal and external factors, and is provided with rash diversity, symmetrical distribution, significant leakage tendency, severe itching, easy to turn into a chronic features of allergic skin diseases, during the chronic phase, it is confined, humectant and hypertrophy, itch severely, and easy to relapse. In Hong Kong, the weather is hot over half a year of time, rainfall is heavy, if there is mental stress and heavy work load distress, people are easy to suffer from skin disease in such heat and humid climate environment. Associate Professor, University of Hong Kong of faculty of Chinese Medicine, Shen Feng Jun estimated that, the number of patients have suffered and are suffering from skin diseases is about 200 million, more than 60 percent of the cases are eczema, this disease is seriously affecting people's health and quality of life. Chronic eczema is a common disease of dermatosis, its incidence rate is increasing year after year, due to this high incidence, chronic eczema has caused great concern to the medical professions. Currently, there are many Western treatments in chronic eczema, but the results have not yet satisfied. In recent years, the use of Chinese medicine treatments of eczema has drawn increasing attention, and gain satisfactory outcome, thereby, it is necessary to have more research and development on curing chronic eczema with Chinese medical treatments.Object iveIn this research, through carrying out randomized controlled trials, to investigate the clinical efficacy of chronic eczema by treatment of Yangsue Qufeng Zhiyang prescription.Methods80 patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 40 cases in each group. Traditional Chinese Medicine for internal application and Acupuncture were adopted for treatment group; the control group treated only with acupuncture. Two weeks were considered as a course of treatment (in a course, acupuncture will consecutively acupuncture 7 days and then suspended for 7 days), treatment was continued 3 courses. After 3 courses, observe the efficacy of the treatment. Objective ratting will be made on patients' subjective symptom (itching) and objective symptom (papules, area of lesion skin, scratches, blood scab, the degree of hypertrophy) before and after 3 courses, and then evaluate the clinical efficacy.ResultsIn treatment group, there were 40 patients completed the therapy,22 cases were markedly effective, and 18 cases were ineffective, the total effective rate is 55.0%. For the 40 cases completed therapy in control group,13 cases were markedly effective, and 27 cases were ineffective, the total effective rate is 32.5%. By the Chi-Square test, suggested that the efficacy difference between two groups has statistical significance (x2=4.114, P=0.043<0.05), the total efficacy of treatment group is better than the control group. In treatment group, the clinical scores before the treatment were 11.93±1.80; after the treatment, the clinical scores were 4.38±2.24. By the rank sum test, showed that the score comparison of pre and post treatment has statistical significance (Z=-5.52, P<0.01), the clinical scores after treatment were significantly lower than the scores before treatment. In control group, the clinical scores before treatment were 11.98±2.03; after treatment, clinical scores were 5.97±2.86. Through the rank sum test, the clinical scores comparison before and after treatment have statistical significance (Z=-5.54, P<0.01), the scores after treatment were significantly lower than scores before treatment. After the treatment, clinical scores of treatment group were 4.38±2.24; clinical scores were 5.97±2.86 in control group. By the rank sum test, it showed that score comparison of both groups in post treatment has statistical significance (Z=-2.54, P=0.01), the clinical scores of treatment group was significantly lower than the control group after the treatment.ConclusionFor Xuexu Fengzao pattern of chronic eczema, Traditional Chinese Medicine of Yangsue Qufeng Zhiyang presciption combined with acupuncture therapy were more effective than treated only with acupuncture.Traditional Chinese Medicine of Yangsue Qufeng Zhiyang presciption combined with acupuncture therapy can obviously improve Xuexu Fengzao pattern of chronic eczema's clinical symptoms.
