Objectiver:To investigate the differences and similarities of clinicopa-thological characteristics in young and old patients with breast cancer. Methods:The patients were chosen from January 2000 to December 2006 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University and by the years of age separated into two groups:young group (≤35) and old group (>35).We analyzed with pathological type, tumor size, status of axillary lymph nodes metastasis, TNM stage, the status of estrogen receptor(ER),progesterone receptor(PR) and HER-2 between the two groups. The entire set of data was processed by SPSS 10.0 statistical software.Results:1 Invasive ductal carcinoma was the primary pathological type in both groups.2 There were 76.46% T1/T2,45.58% NO,41.17% stageⅡin the young group, while 73.53% T1/T2,44.11% NO,47.05% stageⅡin the old group. No significant difference were showed between the two groups(P>0.05). And also, there were no significant difference in status of ER, PR and HER-2 (P> 0.05):80.88% ER (+),82.35% PR (+) and 11.76% C-erbB2 in the young group, while 85.29% ER,86.76% PR,19.11% C-erbB2 in the old group group.3 Only stage III in the young group was significantly higher than that in old group.Conclusion:1 Breast cancer in women under 35 years of age has no distinct difference clinicopathological characteristics in the pathological type, tumor size, number of axillary lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, ER, PR and HER-2 protein expression.2 Poor prognosis in young breast cancer may be associated with more advanced cases.
