Objective:It is proved by the overseas researchers that digit ratio shows differences in gender, race and region, which relates to the individual aggression behavior, physical education, musical talent, susceptivity of AIDS virus, myocardial infarction, breast cancer, quantity of sperm, schizophrenia and homosexuality. Cerebral infarction is the most common cerebrovascular diseases, which is one of the three human death causes, with high morbidity and mortality. There is evidence that genetic factors and immune factors play an important role in the occurrence and development of this disease. But few corresponding research in digit ratio of cerebral infarction patients was held in domestic. This study adopts direct measuring method to contrast the digit length and digit ratio of cerebral infarction patients and normal adult in Xiangxi Han. Through the study on the relationship between digit ratio and cerebral infarction to provide an indirect basis for early screening of domestic infarction, meantime, identify the distribution characteristics of the mean values of digit length in Xiangxi Han and accumulate data of this study in our country.Methods:Under the permission of the objects,300 of Han males (150 of healthy adult people,150 of cerebral infarction patients) and 300 Han female(150 of healthy adult people,150 of cerebral infarction patients)were random selected from Huaihua First People's Hospital. Authropometry methods were adopted to measure the length of 2nd to 5th digit of left and right hand (palmar aspect) and to calculate the ratio of length of different digits and discuss the relationship of the digit length and cerebral infarction, and to do comparison between gender, regional and different diseases.Results:1. The digit length:the mean values of length of 2nd to 5th digit of left and right side(palmar aspect) of cerebral infarction patients in Xiangxi Han were 69.03,76.21,71.24,57.25; 68.92,75.84,70.77,57.07 in male patients, male control group were 68.36,76.40,71.40,57.09; 68.19, 76.12,71.16,57.21, female patients were 65.66,71.78,66.96,53.81 and 65.56,71.73,66.62,53.71, female control group were 65.94,72.90,68.10, 54.54 and 65.73,72.54,67.63,54.42. Compared with that of adults in Dalian Han nation young people and Xinjiang Weiwuer nation youth, significant differences of digit length could be observed in both male and female (P<0.05).2. The digit ratio:the values of 2D:3D,2D:4D,2D:5D, 3D:4D,3D:5D,4D:5D of left and right side of Xiangxi Han nation people were 0.9056,0.9692,1.2082,1.0706,1.3347,1.2471 and 0.9087,0.9744, 1.2103,1.0726,1.3325,1.2429 in male patients; 0.8949,0.9577,1.1990, 1.0708,1.3392,1.2521 and 0.8960,0.9588,1.1939,1.0705,1.3326,1.2458 in male control group; 0.9149,0.9808,1.2226,1.0728,1.3377,1.2471 and 0.9142,0.9845,1.2232,1.0775,1.3392,1.2432 in female patients; 0.9049, 0.9693,1.2110,1.0712,1.3388,1.2504 and 0.9061,0.9727,1.2096,1.0735, 1.3353,1.2449 in female control group. Male and female patients with cerebral infarction and healthy controls showed the 3D:5D> 4D:5D> 2D:5D> 3D:4D> 2D:4D> 2D:3D.3. The left and right difference:There were no significant difference between left and right digit length and digit ratio in the same gender (P>0.05).4. The gender differences:cerebral infarction group of men and women of 2D:5D significant difference (P <0.05), left hand 2D:3D,2D:4D and right 2D:4D, there was highly significant difference (P<0.01), healthy controls group right hand 2D:5D significant difference (P<0.05), while the 2D:3D,2D:4D were highly significant differences (P<0.01).5. The comparison of cerebral infarction patients and normal control group:male cerebral infarction patients 2D:3D, 2D:4D and 2D:5D were higher than healthy control group, left 2D:3D, 2D:4D and right hand 2D:3D,2D:4D was highly significant difference (P <0.01), the right hand 2D:5D significant difference (P<0.05). Female cerebral infarction patients 2D:3D,2D:4D and 2D:5D also were higher than healthy control group, left 2D:3D,2D:4D right hand 2D:4D highly significant difference (P<0.01), right hand 2D:3D is significant difference (P<0.05).6.The percentage distribution of 2D:4D:The phenomenon of 2D<4D played dominative role in left and right hands in both gender, and the second largest percentage were 2D>4D,2D=4D were the smallest percentage. But the percentage of 2D>4D of female were significantly larger than that of male.7.The regional differences 2D:4D:Both male and female Xiangxi Han nation people presented the low digit ratio,which were significantly lower than that of England,Liverpool, Hungary, Poland and Spain, but higher than that of other countries and nations.8. To compare of disease:Xiangxi Han Chinese male cerebral infarction patients 2D:3D less than Ningxia male coronary heart disease patients,2D:4D,2D:5D,3D:4D, 4D:5D are higher than the latter. Xiangxi Han female cerebral infarction patients 4D:5D less than Ningxia Han breast cancer patients,2D:3D,2D:4D, 2D:5D,3D:4D were more than the latter.Conclusion:1.Significant gender differences are in Xiangxi Han cerebral infarction patients and healthy controls, and no difference between left and right.2. There were significant differences of the digit ratio in Xiangxi Han cerebral infarction patients and healthy controls, especially 2D:4D may be one of the important early diagnosis markers for cerebral infarction.3. Unique distribution of 2D:4D in Xiangxi Han Chinese patients with cerebral infarction and healthy controls.4. There were significant regional differences in 2D:4D of Xiangxi Han with other region. Both male and female Xiangxi Han nation people present the low digit ratio.5. There were significant differences in digit ratio between Xiangxi Han female cerebral infarction patients, Ningxia Han coronary heart disease patients and breast cancer patients.
