Objective:To investigate the efficacy and safety of single-pill amlodipine/atorvastatin, we compared the antihypertensive and lipid-lowering effect of amlodipine plus atorvastatin with single-pill amlodipine/atorvastatin for the treatment of patients with concomitant hypertension and hyperlipidemia. The incidences of treatment-related adverse events were also observed.Methods:36 patients with concomitant hypertension and hyperlipidemia were divided into treatment group and control group by double-blind, randomized and parallel control method. Patients in treatment group (n=18) were administered single-pill amlodipine/atorvastatin (5mg/10mg,1 time/day), while control group (n=18) were administered amlodipine 5 mg plus atorvastatin 10 mg per day. Blood pressure and lipid levels after treatment for 4 and 8 weeks were recorded. The incidences of treatment-related adverse events were also observed. Results:There were no differences in age, height and weight between two groups. The blood pressure and lipid levels before treatment had no significant difference between two groups. No patients discontinued the treatment due to treatment-related adverse events. The antihypertensive and lipid-lowering effect was 100% in both groups. No dizziness, headache, edema, liver or kidney disfunction and other adverse events happened in these 36 patients.Conclusions:Single-pill amlodipine/atorvastatin therapy was well tolerated and effective for the reduction of blood pressure and lipids to recommended goals in patients with concomitant hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
