Objective:Through monitoring nocturnal oximetry of patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) pre and post uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) by portable oxymeter,to evaluate the postoperative effect in recent period,in addition to observe variation tendency of nocturnal oximetry from the second day to the sixth day after operation.Methods:31 OSAHS patients who were made a diagnosis by polysomnography(PSG) were selected to underwent UPPP. Oxygen desaturation index (ODI), lowest oxygen saturation (LO2), average oxygen saturation(AO2), the incident quantities of oxygen saturation level between 90% to 99%,80% to 89%,70% to 79%(Q (90-99)%,Q (80-89)%,Q (70-79)%,),and the percent of the total time with oxygen saturation level lower than 90%,80%,70%(T<90%,T<80%,T<70%) were regarded as the indexes of evaluating oxygen saturation, and then they were divided into different groups and compared. Results:The subjective symptoms of the whole 31 patients were improved in different degrees postoperation. In the mild group,AO2 and T<90% of postoperation were significantly different from that of preoperation. In the moderate group, except for Q (70-79)% and T<70%, there were significant differences in other indexes. In the severe group, except for Q (90-99)% and LO2, there were significant differences in ODI,AO2 and other indexes. There were no significantly differences of oxygen saturation indexes among days after UPPP,the same to the results of the comparison among the groups. The changes of oxygen saturation postoperation were irregular. One phenomenon we should pay attention to:the LO2 of 24 patients dropped to 40% after UPPP, in these 24 patients,5 from mild group,8 from moderate group and others from severe group. In addition,19 patients with blood oxygen saturation decreased to 40% for three days,3 from mild group,7 from moderate group and 9 from severe group.Conclutions:The majority of oxygen saturation indexes had significantly differences between pre and post operation. There was no significantly difference among the three group. The oxygen saturation was significantly fluctuating and irregular after UPPP,and apart from that, the overwhelming majority of patients to appear serious hypoxic conditions-the LO2 dropped to 40%.From all of the above,we know hypoxia of patients was still existing after UPPP, and it is necessary to monitoring oxygen saturation in recent period after UPPP.
