Objective:A retrospective analysis of renal oncocytoma cases, explore the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Methods:This paper reviewed the clinical data of 14 pathological confirmed cases of renal oncocytoma admitted to Shandong Provincial Hospital from June 2001 to November 2009. Retrospectively study 14 renal oncocytoma cases about their clinical presentations, imaging characters, laboratory examinations, pathological characters, treatments and prognosis.Results:14 patients, including 6 males and 8 females, were unilateral,7 in left and 7 in right. There were accompanied symptoms in 6 cases, such as flank pain, hematuria and so on, while the remains had no obvious symptoms and their tumors were found in physical examination. All the cases were given B ultrasonography before operation and renal tumors were found in all patients.13 cases underwent CT examination,1 case underwent MRI examination,13 cases underwent renal ECT scan, and 1 cases underwent PET-CT, only three cases were considered the renal oncocytoma by CT scan, one of which was considered renal oncocytoma by B ultrasonography.3 cases were suspected as renal oncocytoma before operation, accounting for 21.4%. 10 patients had done open surgery in 14 patients, including 5 cases of radical nephrectomy, nephron sparing surgery in 4 cases and nephroureterectomy resection in 1 case. The other 3 cases had hand-assisted retroperitoneal laparoscopic through abdomen and the last one case underwent renal biopsy. All the surgery were successful, reported no perioperative death. Pathology report:all of the cases were renal oncocytoma. After operation,12 cases were followed up for 5 to 102 months, average 19.7±26.4 months, without tumor recurrence or metastasis. Conclusions:Renal oncocytoma is a good biological characteristics of renal tumor and their clinical symptoms is not obvious, early diagnosis mainly rely on imaging examination. B-ultrasonography, CT scan, MRI scan and other imaging examinations can find the tumor and have important diagnostic value, but the significance of the differential diagnosis is limited. Integration of imaging examinations and medical history characteristics are consider the effective diagnosis of renal oncocytoma. Ultimately the diagnosis of renal oncocytoma still rely on pathology. Nephron sparing surgery is the first choice of renal oncocytoma treatment. Accurate diagnosis can avoid postoperative adjuvant therapy which will bring spiritual and material pressure to patients.
