Objective To enhance the understanding of benign renal neoplasms and to discuss it.Methods 76 cases admitted to our hospital with benign renal neoplasms were studied retrospectively and review the literatureResults 30 cases were diagnosed by ultrasonography on their routine physical examination without any clinic symptoms, others were symptomatic. 72 cases underwent ultrasonography and CT; 4 cases underwent ultrasonography and MRI. There was no specificity of the clinical presentation in all cases . Ultrasonography,CT and MRI showed that angiomyelolipoma, lipoma and oncocytoma had specific imaging features . All cases were underwent surgery for the final diagnosis, including radical nephrectomy(25 cases), mere nephrectomy(17 cases), partially nephrectomy(35 cases),polar nephrectomy(4 cases). The pathological results included angiomyelolipoma(65 cases), fibrous tumor(4 cases), oncocytoma(3 cases),lipoma (2 cases)renal adenoma(1 case), metanephric adenoma(1 case). Conclusions Benign renal neoplasms were not common in clinic compare with renal malignant neoplasms, their clinical symptoms are not obvious. Early diagnosis depended on imaging techniques(ultrasonography, CT or MRI ). Ultrasonography ,CT and MRI are contributive to the diagnosis and treatment of benign renal neoplasms .Using nephron sparing surgery (NSS) according to specific imaging features is preferentially considered for the treatment of benign renal neoplasms . Nephron sparing surgery can reduce misdiagnosis and unnecessary nephrectomy .
