ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical efficacy of the procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids (PPH) for grade III and IV internal hemorrhoids.MethodsTwo hundred and thirteen patients with grade III and IV internal hemorrhoids underwent PPH from October 2008 to October 2009. Pain, bleeding, distension before the procedure and 1day,7days,30days after the procedure were compared, and the complications were demonstrated.ResultsIn this group, the mean operating time was 12.3±2.4min, on the first day after the procedure, pain occurred in 78.4%, bleeding in 8.0%, there were 77.0% patients who suffered from distension, untill 30 days later all of them were relieved. The first defecation time after the procedure was 28±3.5h. The mean hospital stay was 7±3.5d. Resumed the normal activity was 15±2.5d. Pain (167 cases) and urinary retention (79 cases) were the main complications. The mean follow-up time was 7±2.5 months,168 patients were included, all of them recovered well with no recurrence.ConclusionsPPH has been considered as an effective surgical intervention for the treatment of grade III and IV internal hemorrhoids, with the advantage in terms of decreased operating time, reduced postoperative pain, rapid recovery and few complications.
