ObjectiveTo evaluate the value of mangled extremity severity score(MESS),Classification of Open Fractures and Gustilo classification in prognosis of crush limb injury.MethodA retrospective study was carried out on 54 cases of crush limb injuries classificated by MESS and Gustilo classification in emergency department of our hospital.19 cases of crush limb injuries and subsequent Open Fractures classificated by Classification of Open Fractures. Prognoses were followed up, and the correlation with three classifications and patients'prognoses were statistically analyzed.ResultMESS and Gustilo classification are important references for evaluation of the outcome of crush limb injuries, MESS is more accurate than Gustilo classification, however Open Fracture classification cannot be applied to evaluate the the outcome of crush limb injury and subsequent Open Fractures patients.ConclusionMESS and Gustilo classification are important references for evaluation of the outcome of crush limb injuries. The value of MESS is better in early predicting the reservation and amputation of crush limb injuries.
