Primary Research About TCM Syndrome Of Colorectal Cancer

BackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most popular tumors of digestive system. With the change of diet and habits, the incidence of CRC has been increasing greatly. The effective treatment of CRC is a comprehensive treatment which has its center of surgery. Recent studies proved that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which can prolong the patients'life, ease pain and reduce the pain of chemotherapy, are so effective that many doctors use them to treat CRC patients. While, we found that there is no creatior in the differentiation and treatment in the CRC, which make some research unpropagable, so it is very important to study the distribution of TCM syndromes.PurposeTo explore the rule of the distribution of TCM syndrome, and the correlation between Chinese syndrome and the location,pathological type and clinical stage,with a method of literature research combined with clinical survey.MethodWe summarized the most popular symptoms and syndromes of TCM by documents study, and then we collected the TCM information about CRC patients with CRC patient's information form. We put them into a database, then we analyzed the distribution of TCM syndromes, and the relationship between TCM syndrome and gender,age,chemotherapy,surgery,location,pathological type and clinical stage.Result1. There are 6 types of syndromes of TCM in literature study. They are: damp-heat accumulating type, deficiency of both spleen and kidney, deficiency of both qi and blood, blood stasis-toxin, yin deficiency of liver and kidney, efficiency in spleen and wet. 2. We collected 159 cases, of which 91 cases of male and 68 cases of female, the most popular factors of risk of CRC are dietary factors; the most infected sites are rectum, and the patients which are in Dukes C and Dukes D stage made a great proportion.3. We found that the syndromes of TCM are far more complicated, the most popular types are deficiency of spleen and kidney (28.9%), damp-heat accumulating type (20.1%), blood stasis-toxin (17.6%), defficency in spleen and wet (15.7%) deficiency of both qi and blood (10.7%), yin deficiency of liver and kidney (6.9%).4. There is no correlation between TCM syndrome and gender,age and pathological types. There is relationship with surgery,chemotherapy and lesion site and clinical stage.ConclusionThere is some characteristic of incidence of CRC, so it is important to prevent the CRC by take the risk factors into consideration. we found that there is some regular pattern in the distribution of TCM sydromes, so we can know more about CRC and we should value the deficiency of spleen, what is more, we should know that there are some difference in the different stage, so our study provide some reference basis in the differentiation and treatment of TCM.
