Objective To study the expression of interleukin (IL)-32 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and sera in patients with lung cancer, and evaluate their clinical significance. Methods The subjects confirmed by pathological diagnosis were divided into patiends with benign pulmonary disease(BPD)(n=21), adenocarcinomas (AC)(n=32) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) (n=29).Peripheral blood samples and BALF were collected in the morning from the subjects above. ELISA was used to identify the expression of IL-32 and carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) in BALF and sera in all subjects. The software of SPSS13.0 version was used to analyze the date and access the difference of each index in each group.Results①The level of IL-32 in BALF from patients with SCC (161.05±37.0) ng/L was lower than that of patients with AC (221.05±47.95) ng/L or BPD(219.06±67.82) ng/L (P<0.05) ,but the latter two didn't show statistically meaningful differenc(ep>0.05). the level of IL-32 in sera of patients with SCC (147.46±30.16) ng/L or AC (150.41±35.65) ng/L was lower than that of patients with BPD(188.11±45.98) ng/L (P<0.05).,but the former two didn't show statistically meaningful difference(p>0.05)②The level of IL-32 in BALF in patients with lung cancer who were in stageⅣ(226.70±53.75) ng/L was highest ,with that in stageⅢ(185.55±51.05) ng/L coming next and that in stageⅡ(141.99±24.46) ng/L was lowest (P<0.05). There was no significantly difference(P>0.05)of IL-32 in sera in patients with lung cancer , who were in stageⅡ(121.26±19.83) ng/L,Ⅲ(150.98±31.92) ng/L,andⅣ(155.05±33.79) ng/L.③Level of IL-32 in BALF was positively correlated with CEA for patients with lung cancer(P<0.05),but not in sera(P>0.05). Level of IL-32 in BALF was not correlated with that in sera(P>0.05).Conclusions The expression of IL-32 in BALF is probably contributed to identify the LAC and LSCC,and the expression of IL-32 in sera may be an auxiliary indexes which can identify benign and malignant lung disease. The expression of IL-32 in BALF in patients with lung cancer was increased with the advanced stages and its correlation with CEA .It might be associated with the progression and prognosis of lung cancer.
