The Study On The Meaning Of Life For The Patients With Advanced Cancer

[Objective]The purposes of the study are to explore the local Chinese cancer patients' meaning of life as well as their effecting factors. Based the findings and put forward specific proposals to serve as health care workers and hospice workers, social workers for reference.[Methods]:The in-depth interview was conducted with 26 eligible advanced cancer patients. Contents of interview include 5 aspects, which are the meaning of life, the reasons to live, the goal of life,the meaning of suffering, and the meaning of death.[Results]:The discussion on the meaning of life is indicated respectively, in the meaning of life, the reasons to live, the goal of life,the meaning of suffering, and the meaning of death aspects. It explores the main factors which influencing the meaning of life. One is related to the disease, another is the patient personal.[Conclusion]:Facing the end of life and the threat of serious illness, every patient has a unique philosophy of life and contingency measures, even to understand interpretation of the meaning of life again, and rediscover the value of life. Thus, those reduce the spiritual suffering of patients. Results are discussed and suggestions are provided which counselors and hospice staffs can carry out for enhancing the level of cancer patients'meaning of life.
