Objective: To investigate the clinical effects of the combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Cyproterone Acetate Tablets (brand name: Daying-35) and traditional and herbal drugs on treating infertility caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)Methods: Select 50 patients with PCOS attending the out-patient department of our hospital from January 2009 to January 2010 and the age ranges from 20 years to 35 years. They are divided into two groups randomly with 25 patients in treatment group and control group respectively. Chinese and western integrative medicine is applied in treatment group while western medicine in control group. They are all treated 3 to 6 cycle period. Observe and record the ovulation rate and pregnancy rate to identify the clinical effects. Results: the observation of clinical effects:â‘ The improving situation of BBT: in treatment group, there are 25 patients with single phase while 0 patient with double phase before treatment, there are 5 patients with single phase while 20 patients with double phase after after treatment and the ovulation rate is 80%; in control group, there are 25 patients with single phase while 0 patient with double phase before treatment, there are 13 patients with single phase while 12 patients with double phase after treatment and the ovulation rate is 48%; the BBT situaitons of both groups are not significantly different and comparable by Chi-square test analysis (P>0.05). After the treatment, the ovulation rate of treatment group is 80% while that of control group is 48% and the difference is significant (P<0.05). â‘¡The comparision of pregnancy situation: in treatment group, there are 25 patients with interfility while 4 patients have pregnancy after treatment and the effective rate is 16%; in control group, there are 25 patients with interfility while 2 patients have pregnancy after treatment and the effective rate is 8%. The effective rates of both groups are not significantly different after Chi-square test (P>0.05), and there is no significant difference of the pregnancy rate after treatment.â‘¢The Comparison of the menstruation recovery: There are 25 cases with menstrual disorders in the treatment group and control group before treatment. After the treatment, the effective rate is 36% (9/25) and the apparent rate is 48% (12/25) in the treatment group while the effective rate is 16% (4/25) and the apparent rate is 40% (10/25). The comparison of effective rate between groups by Chi-square test find there is significant difference (P<0.05).Conclusions: Chinese and western integrativve medicine can increase the ovulation rate and the pregnancy chance more effectively than western medicine when treating infertility caused by polycystiv ovarian syndrome and it has less adverse effects. However, the number of subjects is not enough and the observation cycle is short, the further study should be carried on deeply.
