Objective:To evaluate the expressions of CD24 in human esophageal squamous cellcarcinoma(ESCC)and the normal esophageal tissues in different patterns(includingmembranous staining, cytoplasmic staining and nuclear staining),and to investigatethe relationship between CD24 expression and clinicopathological parameters,Ki-67expression.So as to provide theory basis on finding the guideline of malignance andprognosis of ESCC and new therapy of ESCC.Methods:The expression of CD24 and Ki-67 were analysed byimmunohistochemistry in 63 ESCC specimens .The relationship between CD24 andKi-67,patient age, sex, tumor size, location, differentiation, depth of invasion, lymphnode metastasis, distant metastasis,pTNM stage of ESCC was analysed.Results:CD24 expression was observed in membranous staining, cytoplasmicstaining and nuclear staining in ESCC,the positive rate was 80.95%(51/63),88.88%( 56/63 ) ,85.71% ( 54/63 ) respectively.CD24 expression was observed inmembranous staining and nuclear staining in the normal esophageal tissues, thepositive rate was 55.56%(35/63),50.79%(32/63)respectively. The expressionintensities of CD24 in ESCC were significantly higher than those in the normalesophageal tissues, and the differences between groups are of statistical significance(p<0.05).CD24 expression was associated with depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and pTNM stage (P<0.05),the expression of CD24 waspositively related to the expression of Ki-67 (P<0.05).Conclusion:1.The expression of CD24 in ESCC was significantly higher than in the normalesophageal tissue.2.The abnormal expression of CD24 might result in overproliferation of cell,CD24 isclosely related with proliferation ,invasiveness and metastasis of tumor cell.3.CD24 expression is an important marker for predicting biological behavior ofESCC.
