Objective:The study was to investigate current status of core competency of community nurses in Changchun and learned the influencing factors of core competency, aiming to explore training tactics to improve core competency of community nurses.Methods:We selected a total of 150 community nurses from community health service organizations in Changchun by convenience sampling methods. A self-designed questionnaire was applied in this study. The questionnaire was consisted of socio-demographical characteristics and core competency evaluation questionnaire. A database was established by excel 2003. and the data was analyzed using the statistical package of social science (SPSS 13.0). The methods of descriptive analysis,analysis of variance,t-test. and multiple regression analysis were used to process data.Results:1. The average test score of questionnaire is 119.87.according to the evaluation standard of original questionnaire, it is at the middle level. According to the sequences from high to low. the scores are professional development, leadership and management, legal/ethical practice.interpersonal communication, critical thinking and evaluation/intervention. The professional development competence level is high, and the others are at the middle level.2.There was significant difference among participants'core competency scores in terms of age, professional title, way of appointment, clinical working time,conducting home visits or not, publishing paper or not, participating in community nurses training or not;There was significant difference among participants'professional development competence score in terms of community working time;There was significant difference among participants* leadership and management,legal/ethical practice competence score in terms of income;There was significant difference among participants'evaluation/intervention competence score in terms of training time.The core competency score of aged 36-40 years and aged 41-55 years is higher than aged 20-35 years;The core competency score of community nurses with high professional title is higher than the one with low professional title;The military nurses' core competency score is higher than the contract nurses;The core competency score and critical thinking competence score of community nurses with>10 years of clinical working experience is higher than the others with 1~10 years;The professional development competence score of community nurses with≤3 years of community working experience is higher than with>3 years;The core competency score of community nurses with having home visits is higher;The leadership and management and legal/ethical practice competence score of community nurses with high income(>2500 yuan) is the highest compared with the others(<1500 yuan and 1500~2500 yuan);The core competency score of community nurses with having published paper and having participated in community nurses training is higher;The evaluation/intervention competence score of community nurses with>3 months of training time is higher than the others with<3 months.3.After a further analysis of logistic regression test, age and having participated in community nurses training or not mainly influence the core competency level of community nurses.Conclusion:1.The core competency of community nurses in Changchun is at the middle level and needs improve.2.The influencing factors of core competency of community nurses in Changchun are: age, professional title, way of appointment, clinical working time, community working time, conducting home visits or not, income,publishing paper experience, and community nurses training experience.And age and having participated in community nurses training or not are the most important influencing factors.
