【Objective】To determine reference ranges of normal brain,ventricle and lateral ventricle volume in the living bodies,by using 256 CT volume measurement software measure normal brain,ventricle,lateral ventricle volume.【Methods】Using Philips company 256 multi-slice spiral CT thin slice scan(TLC) scanned the 1,093 cases of normal adult heads with the foramen occipitale magnum as baseline, the heads were continue scanning to the top.After by using processing software the brain tissue,ventricle system were reconstructed in three-dimensional,then used the cutting technology of the software to cut surrounding structure,finally accurately measured brain, ventricles and lateral ventricle volume size.All cases were divided into7groups by the different ages [infant(0-3),preschool(4-6),primary(7-12),secondary(13-18), youth (19-35), middle-aged (36-60 years old), elderly (> 60 years)]. CT performance standards are normal:1.Anatomical location:the complete CT scaning must include the whole cerebral tissue from the calvaria to foramen occipitale magnum。2.Brains without pathological changes:ruling out all brain atrophy, cerebral edema, brain damage, cerebral hemorrhage, intracranial space occupying and CT images of hydrocephalus lesions。The data were analysised by using the computer data of SPSS 11.5 statistics software statistical treatment (P=0.05)to draw the conclusion【Results】In 19-35 years of age group,in the Homogeneity test of variance test of Ventricles and lateral ventricle volume the variance was irregular, Line of T-test, P<0.05, in sexual differences had statistically significant, the volumes male ventricles and lateral ventricle volume are both larger than those of females;In the Homogeneity test of variance of remaining three groups ventricles and lateral ventricle volume the variance was regular, P>0.05, in sexual differences had no statistical significance.Ventricle and lateral ventricle volume were compared between any two groups on the analysis of variance,ventricular volume,the variance were significantly significance in comparing the greater or equal than 60 years ages group with the other three groups, but it had no significant significance between the other three groups; The variance analysis of lateral ventricle volum were compared in the greater than or equal to 60 years age group with the other three groups, The variance were significantly significance, but, the difference of between the 35-60 years ages group and other groups had no statisticalle significant.【Conclusions】1.We established the 95% confidence intervalof normal brain and ventricular system volume in all age group.2.Over 60 aged healthy people with age increasing have varying degrees brain atrophy, but brain atrophy no difference between the sexes3.Lateral ventricle volume increases with aging and grows faster after the age of 60.4.We established the volume ratio of the ventricular system/brain volume,and the volume ratio of lateral ventricles/he ventricular system volume, it can be used as a diagnostic indicator for intracranial lesions...
