| Objective:The aim of this study is to explore the possible mechanism of Guizhi Fuling capsule in treating the patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, and offer its possible basic theory.Methods:Sixty five patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group from November 2009 to April 2011 in outpatient and inpatient department of surgery. Patients in the treatment group took Guizhi Fuling capsule (three capusule every time, ter in die), while patients in the control group were treated with Finasteride 5 mg quaque die. International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and Quality Of Life (QOL) were measured. The level of testosterone and estradiol in the control group were measured before and after one, three months administrating the medicine The results were assessed using Student's t test.RESULTS:There was significant difference of the contents of QOL, E2/T and E2 in the treatment group after one month of administration of the capsule (P<0.05), but there were no changes in IPSS and T contents(P>0.05). The IPSS and QOL before and after taking the medicine was not different in the control group (P>0.05). There were no differences of IPSS between the treatment group and the control group (P>0.05), but the QOL of two groups was different significantly (P<0.05).The IPSS and QOL of both groups differed greatly after three months of treatment (P<0.05), there was no difference between the two groups. The contents of IPSS, QOL, E2/T and E2 were obviously different before and after treatment in treatment group (P<0.05), however, there was no significant difference in T level (P>0.05).Conclusion:This study shows that the Guizhi Fuling capsule have little effect on T level, but can continually increased E2 secretion. The possible mechanism of Guizhi Fuling capsule in treating patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia is to increase the level of E2, change the ratio of E2/T, and keep the balance of endocrine system. |
