Ardisia tenera has been widely used in folk medicine for treating tonsillitis and injuries from falls in the People's Republic of China. However, the corresponding scientific information is lacking. The medicinal properties of this species prompted us to carry out a chemical investigation. To purify extracts, silica gel, MCI GEL and Sephadex LH-20 were used in column chromatography. Then, the structures of compounds were elucidated by analyses of spectroscopic data.Sixteen compounds were isolated from the 80% ethanol extract of stems and leaves from Ardisia tenera. Apart from seven new compounds:ardisinone G (1), ardisinone H (2), ardisinone I (3), ardisinone J (4), tenerone B (5), tenerone A (6), tenerone C (7); an unknown saponin (8) and eight known compounds:ardisinone A (9), ardisinone B (10), ardisinone C (11), ardisinone F (12), 11-phenyl-l-(2,6-dihydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-undecan-1-one (13), bauerenol (14), myristic acid (15),β-sitosterol (16) were obtained as well. Compounds 5-7 are novel compounds with dimer ardisinone structure.HPLC test showed that compounds 1-8 mainly exist in the leaves of Ardisia tenera.Gracilaria lemaneiformis is a marine algae with both food and medicine function. Because of the function of strengthening the immunity, and the effects of antimutation, anti-oxidation and antitumor, it has a broad research and development prospect. A chemical investigation was carried out in order to find out the active principles.Nine compounds were isolated from the 80% ethanol extract of Gracilaria lemaneiformis, their structures were elucidated as 2α-oxa-2-oxo-5a-hydroxy-3,4-dinor-cholestane (1), (3-sitosterol (2), palmitic acid (3),1,3-dipalmitin (4),1-mono-palmitin (5), uracil (6), adenosine (7), 1-O-α-D-glucose-2,3-O-dihexadecanoyl-glycerol (8), 1-O-β-D-galactosyl-(6-+1)-α-D-galactosyl-2,3-O-dihexadecanoyl -glycerol (9). All of these compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.
