Effect Of Carotid Artery Stenting On Neurological Function In Patients With Carotid Artery Stenosis

Objective: Carotid stenosis is very common in older people, making quality of life of patients in serious decline. The current study shows that carotid artery stenosis, occlusion, atherosclerosis and stroke in addition to the occurrence of relapse. Surgical methods are available carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS). CAS on the prognosis of stroke is no system of specific research. The purpose of this study neurological scale by carotid artery stenting for patients with neurologic impairment assessment of recovery, through analysis and comparison of stent group patients and control group change in neurological deficit scores to determine carotid artery stenting on neurological rehabilitation of patients。And the introduction of neurological deficit the U.S.National Institutes of Health Scale (NIHSS) and The mini-mental state examination (MMSE) .Methods: Select Jan 2008 to Dec 2009 in Department of Neurology,Luan Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University.whole brain angiography (DSA) confirmed carotid stenting and reached the standard ( NACEST standard) carotid stent implantation in 60 patients,conservative group composed of which 30 patients or their family members refused to take CAS treatment。Observe the patient admission, 1,6 months follow-up, and apply the National Institutes of Health neurological deficit score (NIHSS) and the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) assessment of neurological changes.Results:29 of 30 patients a safe and successful implantation of carotid artery stenting. Perioperative complications disappeared after treatment,the elderly patient died after 3 months,The remaining patients were followed up without symptomatic recurrence and no death. The results were significantly different before and after the treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion:Carotid artery stenting call not only effectllally prcvent me reoccurrence of stroke,but also significantly improve neurological deficits function.Funther studies are needed to confim these preliminary observations.
