Object. To explore the association of Cholesteryl Ester Transfer Protein gene (MspI) polymorphism with cerebral infarction(CI) in Chinese Han population in Hunan province, and the possible influence of this SNP on serum lipid. Methods polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP)was performed to identify the distributions of allele and genotype frequencies of SNP MspI polymorphism in Cholesteryl Ester Transfer Protein gene in 160 patients with CI and 115 healthy controls. Meanwhile we tested the levels of blood pressure, serum lipid, fasting glucose and BMI.Results1.Cholesteryl Ester Transfer Protein gene polymorphism MspI exists in Han population in Hunan province. The M1M1,M1M2 and M2M2 genotype frequencies of MspI in CI and control groups were 0.025/ 0.156/0.819and 0.017/0.070/0.913 respectively. The M1/M2 allele frequencies of MspI in CI and control groups were 0.103/0.897,0.052 /0.948 respectively. No significant differences were observed in genotype and allele frequencies of MspI between CI and control group (P>0.05).2.The levels of TC,TQLDL-Cand HDL-C, were significant different in control group with CI group(P<0.05). No difference in level of TC, TQLDL-C and HDL-C was found in control group with CI group(P<0.05),difference in level of HDL-C was found among M2M2 genotype subgroups in statistics (P=0.000).3.Logistic regression analysis suggested that MspI genotype was not associated with increase CI risk (P=0.057 OR=0.439,95% CI: 0.225-0.865).Conclusions1. The MspI polymorphism of CETP gene is possibly not associated with CI in Chinese Han population in Hunan province.2. The MspI polymorphism of CETP may be associated with HDL-C level in a Hunan Han population.
