Objective: To investigate the association between A±383G/In8 polymorphism in the cholesteryl ester transfer protein(CETP) gene with lipid metabolism and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) in type 2 diabetic pedigrees from Chinese Han nationality in Chengdu area.Research design and methods: 4 groups were designed in our research which included: (l)group of type 2 diabetic pedigrees: Consisting of 79 male and 101 female patients (mean age 45.92 ± 17.69), 27 pedigrees of T2DM (n=180) were recruited in Chengdu area of China, which included 78 T2DM patients, 32 patients with impaired glucose regulation (IGR) and 70 individuals with normal glucose tolerant (NGT); (2) group of sporadic T2DM: 95 T2DM patients without diabetes family history were recruited, including 65 men and 30 women( mean age 58.97 ± 12.38); (3) group of abnormal lipid metabolism: 39 patients with dyslipidemia and normal glucose tolerance and without diabetes family history were recruited, including 18 men and 21 women(mean age 51.46 ± 12.2); (4) group of normal control subjects: these 104 control subjects who have no history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, abnormal lipid metabolism and other endocrine diseases, were composed of31 men and 73 women(mean age 43.45± 14.29). In these total 418 subjects, information of clinical characteristics such as BMI, WHR, blood pressure, both fasting and postprandial plasma glucose and serum insulin, triglyceride (TG), cholesterol(TC) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and CETP activity were detected. The genotypes of A+383G/In8 polymorphism in CETP gene of total 418 subjects were analyzed by combined polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).Results: 1.The genotype distribution of A+383G/In8 polymorphism in the CETP gene were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium ( x 2 = 2.24 , 0.1
