Objectives:To study postoprative visual functions and behavior problems in the children with congenital cataract in western Yunnan. Methods:After congenital cataract surgery,we observed eyes condition and complications of 25 cases(44 eyes), with examinations by visral testing chat,tenonometer,lit-light,direct ophthalmoscope, anterior and posterior ocular camera, OCT et al. Among all cases, there were 14 Male(25 eyes),11 Female(19 eyes), aged from 5 months to 16 years old(average 5.95 years old);aged at first surgery from 2 months to 7.5 years old(average 3.25 years old); 3~50 months postoperative follow up(average 28±3 months). They were divided into 3 groups by ages at first surgery: Group I:≤3岁years old (5 cases,9 eyes), group II:3~6 years old (13 cases, 23 eyes), Group III:>6 years old (7 cases,12 eyes);Besides, They were divided into 2 groups by Surgical Methods:Group A:a single cataract aspiration, Group B:a cataract aspiration combined with posteriorcontinuous curvtlinear capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy. The Rutter Children Behavior Parent Checklist was used in 38 school aged children with congenital cataract in minority areas(aged from 4 to 12 years old, the sex ratio was 1:1). Besides, the control group contained 50 normal children with the same age was established. The questionnair was filled and analyzed with SPSS16.0 software package. Then carries on statistics analysis to the above information and data using SPSS16.0 software package. Results:The incidence of PCO was found no statistical difference in sex between every groups (P>0.05); The incidence of PCO in group A was significantly higher than that in group B, statistical difference was found between two groups (P< 0.05);The incidence of PCO in groupⅠwas higher than that in other two groups, there was no significant difference among three groups (P>0.05); In all cases,we found intraocular hypertension 4 eyes, pupil deformation 5 eyes, posterior synechia of the iris 3 eyes, nystagmus 6 eyes, strabismus 7eyes,but statistical difference was not found compared with other variables such as sex, ages, surgical methods, et al;There was no Retina Detachment(RD) and Cystoid macular oedema(CME);Most of children with congenital cataract have a amblyopia after operation, and only 43.2% had done amblyopia and visual function training after operation. In school aged children with congenital cataract, the average Rutter total score in boys and girls had no statistical difference (P>0.05), positive rate of Rutter Behavior problems in boys and girls had no statistical difference(P>0.05), too; The positive rate of Rutter Behavior problems in school aged children with congenital cataract was significantly higher than that in normal children(P<0.05),the positive rate of Rutter Behavior problems in boys in school aged children with congenital cataract was significantly higher than that in boys in normal children(P<0.05), but, the positive rate of Rutter Behavior problems in girls had no significant difference compared with that in girls in normal children(P>0.05); The positive rate of Antisocial Behavour, Neurotic Behaviour and Mixed Behaviour had no significant difference between boys and girls in school aged children with congenital cataract(P> 0.05). Conclusions:To the children with congenital cataract, early diagnosis and treatment, a choice of correct surgery time and surgery method, visual function training after operation are very important, we must enhance postoprative management and construction of visual function. Furthermore, Primary mental health intervention towards the children with congenital cataract is necessary to promote the psychiatric health, especially in boys.
