Purpose: to explore the content and significance of color doppler ultrasonography of Budd-Chiari syndrome before interventional therapy. Methods: The clinical data of 35 cases of Budd-Chiari syndrome treated with interventional therapy in my hospital from February 2009 to October 2009 were retrospectively analyzed, and then the clinical and ultrasonic characteristics were summarized. Results: Confirmed by the"gold standard"digital subtract angiography (DSA), most cases (94%) with different types of Budd-Chiari syndrome were correctly diagnosed with color doppler ultrasonography, in which 6 cases with inferior vena cava obstruction (inferior vena cava type), 22 cases with hepatic vein obstruction (hepatic vein type), and 7 cases with both inferior vena cava and hepatic vein obstruction (mixed type). Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) occurred in 2 of all cases with inferior vena cava type and mixed type Budd-Chiari syndrome. Short hepatic veins (or accessory hepatic vein) were detected in 25 cases with hepatic and mixed type Budd-Chiari syndrome, in which the frequency spectrum at the junction of the short hepatic vein and the inferior vena cava could be examined in 16 cases. Significant differences could be seen for the maximal blood flow velocity on the junction of the short hepatic vein and the inferior vena cava and the width of the inferior right hepatic vein. The total effective rate of interventional therapy in all case with Budd-Chiari syndrome was 94.5%.Conclusions:â‘ Color doppler ultrasonography had great value in the diagnosis of Budd-Chiari syndrome.â‘¡According to the manifestation of the doppler ultrasonography, Budd-Chiari syndrome could be divided into three different types, which consist of inferior vena cava type, hepatic vein type and mixed type.â‘¢The location and scope of obstruction and the degree of patency could be detected under color doppler ultrasonography.â‘£Color doppler ultrasonography has great referent significance for the assessment of liver function of cases with Budd-Chiari syndrome before interventional therapy by examining the maximal blood flow velocity on the junction of the short hepatic vein and the inferior vena cava and the width of the inferior right hepatic vein.
