ObjectiveTo research and discuss the effects of sport dance on lower limb strength and bone mineral density (BMD) in the male elderly, and to provide experimental and theoretical basis in the exercise prevention on lower limb exercise function degeneration and in the exercise prevention and treatment to senile osteoporosis.MethodsThe subjects of male elderly in this study were divided into two groups: the elderly sports dance group and the elderly control group after making the questionnaire about sports dance in the male elderly. The 25 elderly participators to go into sport dance over one year were regarded as the elderly sports dance group and the 20 elderly without sport dance or other exercises as the elderly control group. The measure method of the isometric strength of lower limb was established. The isometric strength of lower limb and BMD were measured in the male elderly and the results were analyzed in the different group.Results1) Effect of sport dance on the isometric strength of lower limb in the male elderly.Compared with the elderly control group, the isometric strength of lower limb in the elderly sports dance group was increased significantly (P<0.01).2) Effects of sport dance on BMD in the male elderly.Compared with the elderly control group, the amount of the broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA), ultrasound transmission velocity (UTV) and the quantitative ultrasound index (QUI) in the elderly sports dance group were increased significantly (P <0.05, P <0.01).The T-score of BMD results that the distribution of the normal BMD, low bone mass and osteoporosis were 5%, 15%, 80% in the 20 cases of the elderly control group and 28%, 48%, 24% in the 25 cases of the elderly sports dance group respectively. There was a significant difference in the different groups (P<0.01).Conclusions1)Sport dance was contributive to increase lower limb strength and to improve the integrated exercise function of lower limb in the male elderly, which is beneficial to delaying muscle aging and preventing fall.2)The effects of sport dance on BMD relate to muscle functions in the elderly. Sport dance increase BMD significantly and decrease senile osteoporosis, which is benefit to prevent and treat senile osteoporosis.
