Objective: To observe the clinical effect of using heat-clearing fire- purging method in Hypertension carotid atherosclerosis and explore the pathogenesis to provide effective secondary prevention for stroke and treatment ideas for anti-atherosclerosis and plaque stability. Methods: 67 cases of carotid atherosclerosis in hypertensive with fire heat syndrome were randomly divided into two groups. The control group, 34 patients taking amlodipine and conventional (or) losartan hydrochlorothiazide tablets, aspirin tablets, and simvastatin;the treatment group, 33 patients treated with control group treatment based and additional using heat-clearing fire-purging method.Followed up for 6 months. Correspondence neck vascular ultrasound before and after treatment in carotid artery IMT, plaque area, thickness, and ultrasound score, and compare the blood pressure, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein (LDL) levels and effect of Chinese medicine. Results: After treatment, the treatment group improved significantly better than the control group( P< 0.05) .The blood pressure significantly decreased (P <0.01), the treatment group achieve higher decrease in blood pressure than the control group.Carotid artery IMT, plaque area and Crouse points compared with before treatment was significantly reduced (P <0.01). TC, TG, LDL-C decreased significantly (P <0.01), and the difference between TC and the control group was statistically significant (P <0.05).Conclusion:Combination between western medicine and heat-clearing fire- purging method can effectively stabilize and reduced carotid artery atherosclerosis, reduce the clinical symptoms and delayed carotid atherosclerosis process.
