ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of ABCG2 (ATP-binding cassette superfamily G member 2) in PHC (primary hepatic carcinoma), and to explore the correlation between the expression of ABCG2 and the clinicopathological characteristics of PHC.MethodsThe specimens from 50 Patients with Primary Hepatic Carcinoma (PHC) and 15 corresponding Paraneoplastic hepatic tissues were fixed in 10% formalin and routinely embedded in Paraffin. The specimens were continuously sliced into 3um-thick sections. EnvisionTM immunohist-ochemistry was performed to detect the expressions of ABCG2 protein with monoclonal antibodies and scored them under high-Power microscopy.ResultsThe immunoreactant of ABCG2 was found in cytoplasm. ABCG2 had been expressed in the cancer tissues of Primary Hepatic Carcinoma (PHC),but not in the Paraneoplastic hepatic tissues. There is no distinct relationship between the expression of ABCG2 and the clinic characteristic of PHC, such as pathology type, pathology classification grade, the second hepatitis, AFP quantity, transfer, hepatocirrhosis classification grade, tumour size and so on. Conclusion1. ABCG2 as the marker of cancer stem cells had been expressed in PHC tissues.2.There is no correlation between the expression of ABCG2 and the clinic characteristic of PHC.
