Objective: To search for a biomarker from the serum of patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer for early diagnosis of the recurrent disease. Methods: The serum proteins of twenty-one patients with recurrent disease and eighteen patients with complete clinical remission were generated by WCX kit (Bruker Daltonics GmBH) and analyzed by the technique of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Results: In the mass range from 1000 to 12000 Da, forty-two protein peaks were captured by WCX kit. And ClinProTools software was used to find the differential expressed proteins. The result revealed ten distinct protein peaks compared with the serum of remission. Among them , 1944, 1980, 2080, 2661, 2993, 4450, 4659, 5359 Da protein expressions were increased significantly , and 1897, 7868 Da protein expressions were decreased significantly. Conclusions: The technology of MALDI-TOF-MS combined with magnetic beads can be a desired method in detecting the biological markers in the earlier period of recurrent ovarian cancer. The biological tag-proteins have a potential applying value in the early diagnosis of recurrent ovarian cancer.
