Objective1. The myocardial radial strain rate (SrR) of type 2 diabetic patients were measued by the LEJ-2 Omni-directional M-mode echocardiography(LEJ-2 OME) to study the regional myocardial movement characteristics and assess regional myocardial function; 2.The results derived from the LEJ-2 Omni-directional M-mode echocardiography(LEJ-2 OME) were compared with two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging(2D-STI) to explore the clinical application of the LEJ-2 Omni-directional M-mode echocardiography(LEJ-2 OME) in evaluating regional myocardial function.MethodsObject 50 normal subjects, 50 type 2 diabetic patients.Equipment Using GE Vivid-7 Dimension ultrasound system with Echo PAC work station and LEJ-2 Omni-directional M-mode echocardiography(LEJ-2 OME) which was developed by Biomedical Engineering Institute of Fuzhou University in China.Measurement 1. Left ventricular image cine loops on two levels (mitral level and middle level) at the short-axis view were stored on station. 2. M-mode sections were done in each segment by LEJ-2 Omni-directional M-mode echocardiography(LEJ-2 OME), this equipment can measure some parameters respectively, including systolic peak velocity, diastolic peak velocity and velocity difference between endocardium and epicardium, wall thickness. Mean value of three cardiac cycle were recorded. The radial strain rate(SrR) can be estimated as follows: SrR=(Ven—Vep)/D. The strain rate of all segments in mitral level were compared with that in middle levels respectively. 3. SR were measured by two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging(2D-STI) on the two groups.4.The radial strain rate(SrR) derived from LEJ-2 OME were compared to 2D-STI.Results 1.The SrR were not exactly equal in each segment of normal subjects, but the differences had no statistical significance. The SrR of left ventricular free walls were higher than interventricular septums at the same level of left ventricular short-axis.2.The SrR derived from LEJ-2 OME in type 2 diabetic patients group were significantly lower than those in normal group. The difference showed more conspicuous during diastolic period than systolic period.3.The SrR measured by 2D-STI in type 2 diabetic patients group were significantly lower than those in normal group. The differences were more conspicuous during diastolic period than systolic period.4.OME was related significantly to 2D-STI.Conclusions1. The results derived from LEJ-2 OME were consistent with 2D-STI.It was feasible to quantitatively assessment regional myocardial function.2.The SrR derived from LEJ-2 OME in type 2 diabetic patients group were significantly lower than that in normal group. The differences showed more conspicuous during diastolic period than systolic period. LEJ-2 OME could quantify the regional myocardial strain rate. It might be a new method to detect regional myocardial dysfunction.3.The OME correlated well with the 2D-STI.It might be a novel method to quantify regional myocardial function.
