Objective The objective of the study is to compare the clinical results between the fixed-bearing and the mobile-bearing total knee arthroplasty to guide further clinical application.Subject 98 patients (132 knees) are selected from all patients who took total knee prosthesis operations and had been followed-up during 2005.10.~2007.12 in our hospital. Among those, 43 patients (62 knees) selected the fixed-bearing knee, and other 55 patients (70 knees) used the mobile-bearing knee. Methods First, the preoperative ROM,knee varus degrees, knee flexion contracture degrees and HSS knee scores of each patient are recorded, then data of postoperative ROM,the incidence of pain and HSS knee scores from average 22 months(13-52) follow-up are collected. Result Two groups have no significant statistical difference by the analysis (P>0.05) in the preoperative ROM,knee varus degrees, knee flexion contracture degrees and HSS knee scores. After average 22 months (13~52 months) followed-up, two groups have no significant statistical difference by the analysis (P>0.05) in the postoperative ROM,the incidence of pain and HSS knee scores, pains are relieved and knee functions of patients have been improved effectively. Conclusion The results indicate that both of the two types of knee prosthesis have effective improvement and there are no significant differences of them in short-term follow-up. Though theoretically, mobile-bearing knee is obviously superior to fixed-bearing knee in decreasing the wearing of the polyethylene and reducing the rate of loosening, further observations are expected to demonstrate the long-term clinical effects.
