| Objective:Detecting the serum concentrations of follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), estradiol(E2) and progesterone(P) of epileptic female rats induced by pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) when treated with valproic acid(VPA), in order to study the influence of PTZ on FSH, E2 and P as healing epilepsy.Methods:15 Wistar rats were selected randomly from 75 Wistar rats as a control group, to be injected abdominally every other day by 0.9% sodium chloride 2ml/kg'for 30 days. The rest Wistar rats were injected abdominally every other day to induce chronic-kindling models by PTZ 35mg/kg(2ml/kg) for 30 days. Stop injection, observe all the rats for 60 days. Then collect blood from each rat, reserve the serum as the first collection. Build-up model rats were divided randomly completely into four groups:Group 1(the low-frequency-seizure-without-VPA group) and Group 2(the low-frequency-seizure-with-VPA group) were induced seizure every 5 days, Group 3(the high-frequency-seizure-without-VPA group) and Group 4(the high-frequency-seizure-with-VPA group) were induced everyday; Group 1 and Group 3 were administrated 0.9% sodium chloride 10ml/kg intragastricly twice a day, while Group 2 and 4 VPA 300mg/kg(10ml/kg) twice a day. Collect blood and reserve the serum of all rats every 10 days. Determine the serum concentration of FSH, E2 and P by radioimmunity.Resoult:The contrast on serum detection before and after the 40-day-handling period, only the FSH concentration of Group 4 is ascending (P<0.05); comparing serum sample of the same collecting time, the FSH concentrations of the fourth day among each group are different (P<0.05), merely.Conclusion:During the disease course and VPA therapy of epilepsy, the serum concentration of FSH is ascending. The mechanism might be the interaction of both the disease and the drug.
