Objective To explore the effects and mechanism of heart and brain on the course of onset of cerebral ischemic stroke. The target organ of ischemic stroke is brain, the research also focus on discussing the optimized plan of applying the herbs that targets on brain as well as combing the treatment of curing both heart and brain disease. Methods The topic aiming at summing up the heart and brain theory from the beginning of ancient literature systematically, and deepening the understanding of heart and brain. Try to explore the relationship of heart and brain so as to differentiate their function respectively. The research includes 460 patients with ischemic stroke in accordance with diagnostic criteria,286 men,174 women, aged between 58-80 years old, mean age 69.62±10.929.In consistency with the "Stroke Diagnosis, evaluation standard" (second-generation standard) and Changchun National seminar on Emergency Medicine "Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment Standard of stroke" in August 1987 to develop questionnaire to record their chief complaint, symptoms, pathogenesis and treatment, prescription herbs etc in accordance with TCM diagnosis of observing, smelling, consulting and pulse-taking information as well as western medicine past history, physical examination, laboratory findings, so as to carry on statistical analysis with tcm syndrome type. Results 1.Literature study Summing up the heart and brain theory from the beginning of ancient literature systematically to deepen the understanding of heart and brain so as to clear their different roles of human body. The heart dominates the circulation of blood and vessel, the main five emotions, and the role of the main reservoir of Spirit;Brain dominates memory and thinking, regulates the function of eyes, nose, ears as well as controls the sense and movement function of our body. "Heart and brain controls the spirit" theory is a holistic concepts based on the material foundation of heart dominates blood circulation and vessel which is consistent with the idea of collateral-vascular system.2. Clinical case study Results from the statistical point of view, the clinical symptoms of brain often occur with the accompany of heart such as chest tightness, short of breath, palpitation and other symptoms also occur. The occurrence of abnormal electrocardiogram of myocardial ischemia and arrhythmia after stroke is 205 cases, the ratio reached 44.6%, indicating that there are both brain and heart lesions symptoms. Statistics show that CT results confirmed the target organ of ischemic stroke is in the brain, and obstruction of left and right brain demonstrates cross-cutting activities with the left and right side of the body. Results observed from past history shows heart plays an important role in the etiology of ischemic stroke. Diseases such as coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation and artery atherosclerosis in the study of ischemic stroke patients captured in the proportion accounted for 34.3%,13%,65.7% respectively. Observation of differentiation type of ischemic stroke shows that phlegm and blood stasis interweaved damaging the collaterals system is a major cause of ischemic stroke. The study of prescription for the treatment suggests that we learn from the characteristics of the brain, make flexible use of herbal meridian theory to apply herbs that have direct and indirect effects on the brain as well as both have effect on heart and brain in treating ischemic stroke, which are in fact acting on the holistic environment of the heart-brain collaterals system. Conclusion Deepening the understanding of heart and brain with both the TCM theory and modern medicine is conducive to guide the understanding of the disease location of stroke, pathogenesis, treatment methods and prescription of drugs.Heart and brain both have a great impact on the onset and development of ischemic stroke. Treating the heart and brain as an integrated whole part has a broad room to improve the clinical efficacy of stroke.
