Objective: To investigate the serum levels of macrophage inflame- -matory protein-1α(MIP-1α) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs- -CRP) in hypertensive patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS),and explore the implication these two cytokines to cardiac function of patients. Methods: Totally 86 patients were recruited and divided into three groups: Patients were newly diagnosed OSAHS by polysomegraphy(PSG) (OSAHS group, n=29); Patients who presented with a new diagnosis of essential hypertension (HT group, n=27); Patients were presented OSAHS and hypertension together (OSAHS+HT group, n=30). Thirty healthy subjects were selected as the healthy control group(C group, n=30). Based on the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), OSAHS patients were divided into mild, moderate and severe degree, repectively. En Visor HD color Doppler ultrasound was used to measure the cardiac structure and function. Serum MIP-1αand hs-CRP levels were measure by ELISA.Results: Serum MIP-1αlevel in OSAHS+HT group was significant higher than HT groups (75.46±54.58vs36.45±24.03, P<0.05). Comparing with Control group the E Velocity (EV) significant decreased and A Velocity (AV) increased significantly in OSAHS, OSAHS+HT and HT groups (0.75±0.14,0.65±0.11,0.67±0.11vs0.86±0.02 and 0.74±0.13,0.79±0.13,0.92±0.14vs0.66±0.03, P<0.05). Comparing with OSAHS group, the EV significant increased significantly in OSAHS+HT and HT groups (0.65±0.11,0.67±0.11vs0.75±0.14,P<0.05). Serum MIP-1αlevels in those three groups were negative correlation with AV (r=-0.238, P=0.08) and positively correlated with E/A ratio (r=0.307, P=0.02).Conclusions: OSAHS can cause increase of serum MIP-1αlevel in hypertension patients. The cardiac systolic function decreased obviously in early hypertension patients with OSAHS. Serum MIP-1αlevel may contribute to the lesion of cardiac diastolic function.
