Objective: To investigate the correlation between serum vaspin, insulin sensitivity and other factors in different glucose tolerance individuals.Methods: 89 subjects were divided into three groups: normal glucose tolerance (NGT),impaired glucose tolerance(IGT) and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) .After measurement of the height,body weight and waist circumference, fasting blood samples were collected from all participants to determine the fasting plasma glucose(FPG),serum insulin,blood lipids,HbA1c, adiponectin and vaspin levels. Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated based on FPG and insulin measurements. Analysis of the relationship between these parameters in each group .Results: Mean serum vaspin concentrations were not significantly different in three groups(1.13±0.47vs.1.09±0.33vs1.11±0.33, P>0.05)Serum vaspin levels correlated positively with FIns and negatively with LDL-C (r=0.244, r=-0.266;P=0.039,P=0.047) in total cases after adjusting for age,sex,height ,weight. Multiple regression analysis showed that FIns,HOMA-IR,BMI were independent related factor influencing serum vaspin levels. The multiple regression equation was:Yvaspin=1.967+ 0.449XFIns-0.208XHOMA-IR -0.028XBMI. In NGT group, serum vaspin level was positively correlated with FIns (r=0.401,P=0.035)and negatively correlated with LDL-C(r=-0.417,P=0.027).LDL-C,TC,FPG,FIns,adiponectin were independently related to serum vaspin level. Yvaspin=2.57-1.52XFPG +0.43 XFIns-0.9XLDL-C+0.51XTC+0.018Xadiponectin;In IGT group,serum vaspin level was positively correlated with WC (r = 0.477,P=0.037).SBP,HOMA-βwere independently related to serum vaspin.The multiple regression equation was: Yvaspin=-0.85+0.028XSBP -0.37XHOMA-β.Conclusion: Fasting serum vaspin level is associated with lipid metabolism disorder,insulin resistance and obesity.
