Elizabeth Mrs.Gaskell (1810-1865)has rich creative works. She writes one biography, more than 30 short novels, Mary Barton and the other five long novels, with wide-ranging and rich material. In introduction of the paper, I state her works, introduce them briefly and analyze current situation of her research. In Victoria, people pay more attention to Jane Austen and Sister Brontes, paying less attention to her. From 1950s, there are more researches about her. This paper concerns about her first novel Mary Barton.Mary Barton is a novel of industrial theme, which is welcomed when it is published. It molds bright individualities, which makes us admire perfect human nature. In the paper, I analyze her work from angel of morals, male's and female's morals, showing changes from evil to kindness. It is divided into four parts.Chapter 1 elaborates the source of her morals from author's background, character and faith, then introduces Unitarianism. Chapter2 analyzes males in the novel and its relationship with morals. Males in the novel are kind, noble, helpful and rational. Chapter3 explores females'morals. Females are brave, lovable and independent. Chapter 4 elaborates the way to realize morals. It shows the changes from evil to kindness. So in this chapter, I analyze the way to change evil into kindness, which is redemption, rationality, love and moral education. I mainly studies love between family members, love of parents, love of husbands and wives, and love among workers. The employer Carson and the employee Barton's reconciliation under the help of religious mediation reflects the dissolution of barriers of class. Mrs.Gaskell finds solution from Bible, publicizing love is a link to maintain people's relationship. Conclusion sums up the whole paper.
