| Having a brilliant longstanding history of over 7,000 years, Lacquer Arts refers to all the artwork which using lacquer as the main material, including lacquerware, lacquer painting and lacquer sculpture (in this thesis we mainly focus on the lacquerware and lacquer painting). As recorded in the ancient writing《sHan Feizi·Shi Guo Pian》, lacquer was commonly applied to coat and paint on the containers for food and sacrifice. This has been proven by the archaeologists with the finding of the antique red lacquer bowl in Zhe Jiang Province He Mu Du. These showed the practicability value of the lacquer, or the lacquerware in the ancient times. However, in the modern times, under the transformations in society, impact of the modern industrial materials and many other factors, lacquerware gradually lost its practical value to become decorative items. Due to this loss of practicability, the market demand for the lacquerware has greatly shrunk, so that lacquerware gradually fade out of the people's sight. Under the influence of the international lacquer movement and the development of Vietnam lacquer painting, lacquer painting which inherited from the lacquerware was confirmed to be an independent genre of painting in the sixth national arts exhibition in 1984.Ever since then, its own unique and artistic effect and taste has attracted people's attention. However, constrained by the concept of creativity, most of the lacquer arts workers and artists have a limited understanding of the lacquer painting, making the lacquer painting facing same problems as lacquerware. In this thesis, taking the lacquerware and lacquer painting as main research objects, the state of arts were analyzed in order to explore the possible reasons for those problems. Meanwhile, discussions were presented from two aspects: lacquer arts teaching and education, and lacquer arts industrial and market, in order to find the key to solve the current problems, and to investigate the correct and health development path for the lacquerware and lacquer painting. |
