Chinese Foreign Languages Use And Attitude A Research Analysis In Ten Provinces

Language attitude research is a hot spot in sociolinguistics study. The previous language attitude study was focused on the attitude towards Chinese vernacular and attitude of bilingual speakers, no research has reached the general attitude of over all Chinese. Language attitude study are significant and of practical use. Foreign languages attitude study can help understanding people's attitude towards a certain language and its culture as well as serve as the basis for the formulation of language policyAfter the reform and opening up, especially the hold of Beijing Olympic Game and Shanghai Expo, China have more and more economic and cultural exchange with other countries. Then what foreign attitude Chinese have in such a global era is the question this thesis intend to answer. The writer participated in the project of"Chinese Foreign Language Resources Monitoring Database"initiated by the State Language Commission by designing, collecting and analyzing one of its questionnaires. This thesis is based on the Questionnaire on National Foreign Language Use and Attitude. The writer analyzes the foreign languages use situation in China and their foreign languages attitude, as well as the co-relationship of them, in order to have a clear and precise idea of general foreign use situation and language attitude of Chinese. In addition, this thesis can serve as a basis for the law formulation on foreign languages.
